Vitamin C for Gout? it is a Good Idea, But There's a Caution if you Use it as a Gout Treatment

Should you take Vitamin C for gout? The answer is probably yes, but read on for a possibly relevant caution. Gout cures require that uric acid levels be reduced. Vitamins and drugs work in two ways to reduce uric acid levels. One is restricting its supply by inhibiting purine breakdown into uric acid, the other is improving uric acid's breakdown into the urine. Vitamin C is thought to be a uric acid excretory, not an inhibitor. Improving excretion may be more important than reducing production.

What's so risky about beer? Some researchers believe that beer has a non-alcoholic ingredient that makes the increase of gout even higher than other alcoholic beverages. Beer is apparently the only alcoholic beverage to include purines, and an excessive amount of purines in the system can lead to higher production of uric acid. Conversely, other researchers do not believe it is the purines in the drink that increase the risk of gout. These researchers don't believe that having too many purines in the diet increase the risk of gout. Their reasoning is based on a study that was conducted on vegetarians from Taiwan who indulged in a diet that was high in purines. The study revealed that theses individuals actually had a lower risk of developing gout.

1,000 MG PLUS DOSES If you wish to try Vitamin C for gout in doses over 1,000 mg as part of a natural gout remedy discuss it with your doctor or a qualified naturopathic doctor. The 500 mg level is below the British government's 1,000 mg (1 gram) recommended upper safety level safety limit for Vitamin C. It is half of the maximum amount (1,000 mg) in a Vitamin C tablet sold in the U.S. and many other countries.

Gout can be a life and death ailment if left untreated! I immediately made a phone call to Greg to check up! Greg followed our simple Natural Gout Cure and cured his gout, lost over 20 pounds and his blood pressure was over 15 points lower! I jokingly told him that he will be our 'cure gout poster child'.

It also reached the well-known and accepted conclusion that hypertension (high blood pressure) and obesity are risk factors for gout. And one other very different conclusion from the conventional wisdom about purines -- purine intake, with the exception of alcohol, was NOT associated with a risk of gout.

In addition, researchers have found that certain types of alcohol have less risk of causing gout than others. Of all the alcohols studied, it appears that Beer poses the highest risk of gout, while moderate consumption of wine or spirits has little to no increased risk of gout.

While sometimes consistent, pain caused by gout can come and go and arise suddenly without warning. Joints affected with gout are usually red, swollen, and especially tender. Gout can also be accompanied by mild fever.

Curing Gout and Decreasing Your Chance of Heart Disease My career is centered around health! Therefore, my favorite part of the newspaper is the 'Health' Section. And while reading the daily paper, I noticed an article about gout! "Gout Increases Risk of Coronary Heart Disease". I instantly flipped the page and thought 'duh'. But, after thinking about my friend Greg, his family, our friendship, his life... I immediately flipped back and read the interesting article!

Gout is a disease in which there is a buildup of uric acid, formed into crystals, which get deposited in the cartilage of joints or tendons, and even surrounding tissue.?? This causes these areas of the body to become inflamed and swollen, as with other forms of arthritis.?? While gout can really occur in any joint of the body, it usually attacks the big toe first, followed by the ankle, heel, knee, wrist, elbows, and even the spine.?? It may seem even a bit laughable to think of an inflammation of the big toe as something that needs to be taken seriously, but in reality gout is a very painful disease.?? It is usually accompanied by a burning sensation, swelling, stiffness, and a warmness of the affected area.?? Typically the patient also has a low-grade fever that lasts longer than it should.?? Many who suffer from gout even in its most minor form find that any contact of the affected area, such as with an article of clothing, can be excruciating.

Today, researchers that have conducted studies on men in relation to alcohol consumption and its link to gout, have found that men who drank excessive amounts of certain forms of alcohol - especially beer - greatly increased their risk for developing gout.

There are many causes of gout, from genetics to a previous injury of the affected area that has left it vulnerable to the disease.?? Diet is also a common factor; those who eat foods high in sodium or salt content are more prone to this condition, as sodium helps to form these uric acid crystals.?? Many who are diagnosed with this condition are counseled to change their diet immediately and cut out all processed and pre-packaged foods, as these are typically very high in sodium content.?? While some have previously felt that certain ethnic groups were predisposed to gout, it is now believed that their diet has no doubt played a much larger part in this than just genetics.?? Also, if the body's kidneys are not functioning properly, this means that the system is not dumping the uric acid the way it is supposed to be, causing it to back up into the bloodstream and form these crystals.

And the kicker! Men with gout were about 50% more likely to die from an acute heart attack than those men without gout! With millions of gout hospital visits each year, and over 500,000 coronary deaths per year... Can you understand the seriousness of gout?

If you take Vitamin C for gout as a dietary supplement, remember that it is reckoned to work better in a product that contains added citrus bioflavonoids. In addition, because it is excreted quickly, take it twice daily. To avoid excess acidity (lower pH) also take alkalizing minerals, or another alkalizing agent recommended by your doctor.

What has been discovered is alcohol may not only affect the production of uric acid, but also its removal from the body. It appears that when alcohol is changed into lactic acid, it decreases the quantity of uric acid that the kidneys are able to remove from the body. The reason is because uric acid has to compete with the lactic acid in order to be removed by the kidneys.

0.5 mg/dL is a useful reduction but for most people probably not a natural remedy for gout, although the 0.5 mg/dL figure is an average and some participants did better. But a 0.5mg/dL reduction will not be enough to reduce uric acid below the 6.0 mg/dL level at which the MSU crystals may dissolve. However, when combined with other vitamins for gout, a low purine diet and other natural remedies for gout, it could be.

Such a rapid change concerned the authors of one study in the 1970's who had recorded that mega doses of Vitamin C (4,000 mg and 8,000 mg daily) reduced uric acid levels significantly, and by more than in the 2005 study. However, as far as Vitamin C induced changes in uric acid levels is concerned, this triggering has not been reported in any study.

3.) Drink half your weight in water! In ounces that is! I weight 180 pounds so I would drink 90 ounces of water per day! Roughly, 11 cups of water per day!

If you have painful spots on any of your joints at all, you would do well to speak to your doctor immediately.?? Gout can be treated effectively with changes in your diet, medication, and other means.?? There is no reason that you need to suffer with the pain and discomfort.

Regardless of the alcohol beverage you enjoy, you can dramatically reduce your risk of developing gout by drinking modestly (IE a glass of wine or beer per day). Overindulging in alcohol on occasion isn't going to have a dramatic effect on your chances of getting gout, but regular overindulgence may eventually lead to a serious pain in the big toe.

So, if it's not the purines in beer then what is it? Some experts have a hunch that excessive beer drinkers have a higher risk in contracting gout due to their lifestyle. For instance, a person who drinks wine usually has their alcoholic beverage with a meal, or with healthy snacks such as fruits, vegetables, crackers and cheese. A beer drinker, on the other hand, will often indulge in eating salty and fatty snacks such as peanuts and chips, while they sit and watch TV on the couch hour after hour. Thus, enthusiastic beer drinkers are likely to have a more sedentary lifestyle.

Why cherries seem to help the gout patient, no one seems to know and none of the big foundations are trying to find out.?? Grant money is available for drug research but not for food research.?? Cherries have been show to relieve the pain of gout sufferers.?? Cherries contain calcium phosphorus, Vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin and Vitamin C.?? Why not give Cherries or Cherry juice as a treatment for your gout pain.?? It is certainly a more pleasant treatment without the undesirable side effect of drug therapy.

A European study reported a 16 year follow-up of over 9,000 men between 41 and 63 who entered the study with no evidence of coronary heart disease (CHD). After the study follow-up, most men continued to suffer with gout attacks but also were considered high risk for coronary heart disease. And as you might know, 1 out of every 5 deaths is associated with heart disease.

Although there are many factors that can contribute to a build up of uric acid within your system, alcohol consumption appears to be a leading factor in gout development. However, this doesn't mean that people who drink alcohol modestly on a regular basis will develop gout. Furthermore, research has discovered that different types of alcoholic beverages have different impacts on uric acid levels.

For hundreds of years, medical researchers have suspected that gout is linked to specific lifestyles such as diets high in red meat, salt and alcohol, combined with little to no exercise. This type of lifestyle, which many people in Western countries tend to adopt as they become older and closer to middle age, is very much like the lifestyle that was once led by English kings. In fact, gout is often called "the disease of kings".

Here is a list of some basic tips if you or a loved one is suffering from gout! 1.) Maintain Your Healthy Weight! 2.) Avoid Eating Meats (Purines)!

People whose body's produce too much uric acid or are not able to effectively eliminate uric acid from the body are at very high risk of contracting gout. The most common site for uric acid accumulation is in the big toe, although other joints may also be affected by crystalline buildup of uric acid.

VITAMIN C AS A GOUT PREVENTOR If 500 mg daily of Vitamin C can reduce uric acid levels, then Vitamin C ought to act as a preventative gout vitamin too. A Taiwan study of males in the late 1990's examined the weight, diet and lifestyles of gout and non-gout sufferers in Taiwan. It concluded that Vitamin C, folic acid (folate) and fibre were protective against gout.

In the 2005 study by how much did 500 mg of Vitamin C reduce their uric acid level? It found an average, across all participants, reduction of about 10% (0.5 mg/dL). In addition, reductions were larger among participants who had higher levels of uric acid at the start of the study. Participants took the 500 mg daily level for two months. Those who were given a placebo (i.e. not Vitamin C) showed a slight increase in uric acid levels.

How did he do it? He was pro-active about curing gout and began living a healthy lifestyle! And you can too! A Natural Gout Cure- No mediations needed and NO side-effects

However, restricting purines in your diet is not difficult, so it is still worth doing. The conventional wisdom may be correct. Uric acid level tests should tell if a low purine diet works for you.

A few studies over the past 30 years have concluded that Vitamin C will reduce the uric acid level. They have differed in the amount of Vitamin C given to study participants. A U.S. study of 184 non-smokers, published in 2005, concluded that the amount required to achieve a serum (blood) uric acid level reduction was 500 mg daily. (The Vitamin C was taken as a supplement). This is not a mega dose.

THE CAUTION Rapid changes in uric acid levels can trigger a gout attack. This rapid change can be brought about by many factors in addition to possibly mega doses of Vitamin C and by drugs such as probenecid and sulfinpyrazone. People who are susceptible to gout must consider these rapid changes.

One of the most common forms of arthritis is gout. Gout is characterized by joint inflammation accompanied by terrible pain and sometimes red, shiny skin covering the joint. An attack of gout appears suddenly, often overnight and most often affects the feet and ankles, with the most common area being the ball of the large toe. Gout can be cured by using natural products such as cherries, charcoal, diet, avoidance of alcohol and natural supplements like Arthritin.

It's not unusual for anyone to experience joint pain at any time in their life; overexerting yourself when physically active, not warming up properly before workout routines, and being overweight by even a few pounds can put undue stress on your joints and lead to discomfort or even pain.?? There is some persistent joint paint however that should be given extra consideration, as it may be a serious arthritic condition called gout.?? What is this disease, what causes it, and what can you do to fix it?

Previously it has been thought that the amount needed was at least 4,000 mg (4 grams) daily. For example, Dr. Robert Atkins in his book " Vita Nutrient Solutions," recommended 5,000 -10,000 mg as part of his formula natural remedy for gout.
